Wednesday Season 2 Part 1 Ending Explained: What’s Next for Tyler Laurel’s Fate & Wednesday’s Lowest Moment Yet
Warning: Spoilers ahead for Season 2, Episode 4 of Netflix’s “Wednesday”
The first half of Wednesday Season 2 wrapped up with a bang — and a few corpses — in Episode 4, “If These Woes Could Talk.” From shocking deaths to returning villains and dark family secrets, the midseason finale delivered high-stakes horror and left fans desperate for more.
Series creators Alfred Gough and Miles Millar broke down the twists and turns of the finale in an interview with TheWrap, including what the jaw-dropping events mean for the final four episodes — which arrive September 3 on Netflix.

A Midseason Finale Full of Death, Deception, and Hyde Mayhem
Season 2 has gone darker, and its midseason climax proves it. Episode 4 unleashed chaos at Willow Hill Psychiatric Facility, tying up several mysteries from the first half of the season while cracking open new, ominous threats.
As Wednesday Addams (Jenna Ortega) digs deeper into the “Aviary Killer” mystery, she enlists help from her family — including Uncle Fester (Fred Armisen), who brings his trademark chaotic energy (and electric powers) to infiltrate the facility. Wednesday also uncovers key information from Grandmama Hester Frump (Joanna Lumley), pointing her toward the real villain.
That villain turns out to be Judi (played by Heather Matarazzo), a seemingly innocent assistant to Dr. Fairburn (Thandiwe Newton). Judi is the daughter of disgraced Nevermore professor Augustus Stonehearst — and she’s been using her powers to control birds and eliminate Outsiders.
LOIS Revealed: The Chilling Truth Behind Willow Hill
For weeks, fans speculated about “LOIS,” a mysterious name tied to Willow Hill. It turns out LOIS is not a person, but an acronym: Longterm Outcast Integration Study — a horrifying secret experiment where Outsiders are tortured and transformed.
Judi has been faking deaths and conducting grotesque experiments in the facility’s basement. That’s what Sheriff Galpin discovered — and why he feared for his son, Tyler (Hunter Doohan), who was locked away there.
Dr. Fairburn, it turns out, was merely a pawn. She meets a gruesome end, becoming the latest meal for Slurp, the zombie-like creature gaining more humanity with each victim. In a chilling moment, Slurp calls Augustus “Old Friend” after devouring Fairburn — hinting at a deeper backstory.
Tyler’s Breaking Point – and Laurel Gates’ Brutal Exit
In a surprise twist, Season 1’s main villain, Laurel Gates (Christina Ricci), makes a dramatic return in Episode 4. Transferred into Willow Hill, she tries to reestablish control over Tyler — her former Hyde protégé.
But Tyler has changed. Rather than reunite with his master, he gives Laurel a head start… and then kills her with a brutal claw strike. This shocking scene seemingly ends Ricci’s run on the show and marks a turning point for Tyler, now a Hyde without a master.
“We didn’t make that decision lightly,” said co-creator Alfred Gough. “But if we wanted Tyler’s arc to evolve, that relationship had to end.”
What Happens to a Masterless Hyde?
The mythology of Hydes remains murky — but we do know one chilling detail: A Hyde who kills its master is considered doomed.
“What happens now?” Gough teased. “We’ve shown that an untethered Hyde is dangerous, and it doesn’t tend to end well.”
Co-creator Miles Millar added that Laurel’s death isn’t just about Tyler — it deeply impacts Wednesday as well. Her emotional entanglement with Tyler in Season 1 left her vulnerable, something she now regrets.
“She prides herself on being in control. Falling for Tyler made her feel like a fool — and that’s something she doesn’t forgive easily,” said Millar.
Wednesday’s Self-Destructive Path Hits a New Low
As the final moments of Episode 4 unfold, Wednesday lies bleeding after a vicious confrontation with Tyler. Morticia (Catherine Zeta-Jones) had warned her not to go it alone, but as always, Wednesday ignored advice.
“She has to be the architect of her own demise,” said Gough. “She doesn’t take the easy route — she crashes into her mistakes head-on.”
This moment echoes her emotional fallout with Enid in Season 1 — a moment where Wednesday realized too late that pushing people away has consequences. In Season 2, her reckless independence leads to serious harm.
“She made things worse,” said Gough. “Not because someone tricked her, but because she chose that path.”
Family Drama Adds More Fuel to the Fire
Season 2 also brings more Addams Family tension to the forefront. Morticia steps into a larger role at Nevermore, leading the school’s gala and clashing with her daughter’s dangerous choices. Meanwhile, Hester Frump (Wednesday’s grandmother) manipulates both Morticia and Wednesday, igniting a three-way power struggle within the family.
A major plot point involves Goody Addams’ powerful spellbook. While Hester tries to use it as leverage, Morticia ultimately chooses family over magic and burns it — declaring, “My family is non-negotiable.”
“There’s so much story to mine in the Addams family dynamics,” said Gough. “They love each other, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t conflict, power plays, and generational tension.”
What’s Next in ‘Wednesday’ Season 2 Part 2?
With Laurel gone, Judi still at large, and Tyler fully unleashed, the stage is set for a chilling second half of the season. The core mystery may have been solved, but new horrors await at Willow Hill — and Wednesday’s survival is anything but certain.
The final four episodes of Wednesday Season 2 hit Netflix on September 3, 2025, at 3 a.m. ET / 12 a.m. PT.
