As Wednesday Addams (Jenna Ortega) digs deeper into the “Aviary Killer” mystery, she enlists help from her family — including Uncle Fester (Fred Armisen), who brings his trademark chaotic energy (and electric powers) to infiltrate the facility. Wednesday also uncovers key information from Grandmama Hester Frump (Joanna Lumley), pointing her toward the real villain.

That villain turns out to be Judi (played by Heather Matarazzo), a seemingly innocent assistant to Dr. Fairburn (Thandiwe Newton). Judi is the daughter of disgraced Nevermore professor Augustus Stonehearst — and she’s been using her powers to control birds and eliminate Outsiders.

Dr. Fairburn, it turns out, was merely a pawn. She meets a gruesome end, becoming the latest meal for Slurp, the zombie-like creature gaining more humanity with each victim. In a chilling moment, Slurp calls Augustus “Old Friend” after devouring Fairburn — hinting at a deeper backstory.

In a surprise twist, Season 1’s main villain, Laurel Gates (Christina Ricci), makes a dramatic return in Episode 4. Transferred into Willow Hill, she tries to reestablish control over Tyler — her former Hyde protégé.

“What happens now?” Gough teased. “We’ve shown that an untethered Hyde is dangerous, and it doesn’t tend to end well.”

Co-creator Miles Millar added that Laurel’s death isn’t just about Tyler — it deeply impacts Wednesday as well. Her emotional entanglement with Tyler in Season 1 left her vulnerable, something she now regrets.

“She prides herself on being in control. Falling for Tyler made her feel like a fool — and that’s something she doesn’t forgive easily,” said Millar.

Wednesday’s Self-Destructive Path Hits a New Low

As the final moments of Episode 4 unfold, Wednesday lies bleeding after a vicious confrontation with Tyler. Morticia (Catherine Zeta-Jones) had warned her not to go it alone, but as always, Wednesday ignored advice.

“She has to be the architect of her own demise,” said Gough. “She doesn’t take the easy route — she crashes into her mistakes head-on.”

This moment echoes her emotional fallout with Enid in Season 1 — a moment where Wednesday realized too late that pushing people away has consequences. In Season 2, her reckless independence leads to serious harm.

“She made things worse,” said Gough. “Not because someone tricked her, but because she chose that path.”
