Wednesday Season 2 Episode 1 Recap & Review: Here We Woe Again
Netflix’s hit series Wednesday returns with Season 2, and the premiere episode, Here We Woe Again, wastes no time diving back into the dark and mysterious world of Nevermore Academy. Episode 1 kicks off with high tension, fresh mysteries, and a few familiar faces—plus some intriguing new ones. Here’s a detailed recap and review of the explosive season opener.
Wednesday Faces a New Serial Killer
The episode begins with Wednesday Addams trapped in a serial killer’s basement. Over the summer, she’s been honing her psychic powers using Goody’s ancient spellbook and obsessively tracking a murderer known as the Kansas City Scalper, a case she’s followed since childhood. Thanks to a psychic connection with one of the killer’s victims, Wednesday finally tracks him down—only to get caught and tied up in his creepy lair surrounded by lifelike dolls.
With the help of her trusty sidekick Thing, she escapes and defeats the killer. However, the experience leaves her shaken—especially when she starts shedding mysterious black tears during psychic episodes. She swears Thing to secrecy, vowing to keep this disturbing new development hidden from Morticia.
Back at Nevermore Academy
The Addams family reunites to drop Wednesday and Pugsley off at Nevermore. Pugsley, now older and with enhanced electric powers, is welcomed as a new student. Morticia asks Wednesday to look out for her brother, while Gomez encourages Pugsley to find his place.
Meanwhile, a local man named Bradbury, who had been photographing a couple, is attacked and killed by crows shortly after making a cryptic phone call. This death will later connect to a broader mystery.
New School Year, New Mysteries
Wednesday’s return to Nevermore brings mixed reactions. She’s now a campus celebrity thanks to her heroic actions last season, and the new headmaster,Principal Dort, invites her to be honored at the upcoming Founders’ Pyre Ceremony—an offer she instantly declines.
At the dorm, Wednesday reunites with Enid, who’s thrilled to see her roommate. Enid receives a strange but heartfelt gift from Wednesday: an odd, creepy doll. Enid wants to catch up and share summer stories, but Wednesday remains distant. Meanwhile, Enid is dealing with relationship confusion about Ajax, unsure if she still has feelings for him.
Soon after, Wednesday receives a cryptic package from her stalker, reigniting a mystery that has haunted her since last season. She tries to use her psychic powers to read the stalker’s message, but once again, her eyes fill with black tears.
Family Dynamics & Intriguing New Characters
While settling Pugsley into his room—shared with Eugene—Morticia and Gomez are approached by Principal Dort. He offers Morticia a role as the Gala Fundraising Committee Chair, hoping to bring prestige back to Nevermore. The job was previously held by Vincent Thorpe, who resigned after his son was accused of murder. As a sweetener, Dort offers the Addams parents a stay at the now-vacant gardener’s cottage, once used by the infamous Marilyn Thornhill.
Wednesday, meanwhile, is intrigued when Morticia reveals that her sister Ophelia was also a Raven—hinting at more Addams family secrets to uncover this season.
A Dark Legend Resurfaces
Wednesday stumbles across the crime scene of Bradbury’s death. There, she spots Sheriff Galpin, who was a friend of the victim. Surprisingly, he seeks Wednesday’s help in solving the case, revealing a potential new partnership—or rivalry.
Later, Ajax tells students a chilling local legend: the tale of a sickly boy who built himself a clockwork heart. Though brilliant, the mechanical heart corrupted him, turning him cold and dangerous. Legend has it his unmarked grave lies beneath the Skull Tree, and some say his heart still ticks beneath the earth. This tale captivates Pugsley, who becomes determined to find the tree.
Power Plays and Pyre Ceremonies
Principal Dort continues manipulating students, pressuring Bianca into becoming the student liaison for the gala. She initially refuses, but he threatens to revoke her scholarship, forcing her to reconsider.
Elsewhere, Enid and Thing form a close bond, with Enid building a cozy little home for him inside their dorm. However, Wednesday distances herself again upon finding Enid wolfed out with her pack. Instead, she finds solace in the music room—until she meets Capri, the enigmatic new music teacher. Capri encourages her to embrace musical chaos, which Wednesday doesn’t appreciate.

The Pyre Festival Turns Dangerous
As the Founders’ Pyre Festival begins, Wednesday receives a letter and artwork from Xavier, now attending a different school. Along with it comes another ominous poem from her stalker, who threatens to burn her novel during the festival.
Wednesday sneaks beneath the pyre to retrieve her manuscript just as the bonfire is lit. She narrowly escapes and is called to the stage by Dort, who unveils a bizarre portrait honoring her and her friends. In defiance, Wednesday burns the portrait and rejects the hero label, declaring her selfishness instead. Enid is visibly upset by this dramatic gesture.
New Threats Lurk in the Shadows
In the woods, Pugsley locates the Skull Tree and inadvertently reactivates the mechanical heart. A horrifying, zombie-like creature emerges from the ground—suggesting the legend is more than just a myth.
Back in the dorm, Enid tries to connect with Wednesday, but the moment she touches her friend, Wednesday is hit with another intense psychic vision. This time, she sees Enid’s gravestone, and her ghostly friend accuses Wednesday of causing her death.
Episode 1 Review: A Strong, Mysterious Start
The Wednesday Season 2 premiere sets the tone for what promises to be a thrilling new chapter. From black tears and secret stalkers to cursed inventions and mysterious crows, the stakes are higher than ever. The episode smartly weaves in character development, introduces compelling new figures like Capri and Dort, and leaves us with plenty of questions:
Who is Wednesday’s stalker?
What’s the connection between the crows and Bradbury’s death?
Can Wednesday trust her visions—or herself?
What is hiding beneath the Skull Tree?
With tight storytelling, gothic visuals, and layered mystery, “Here We Woe Again” is a strong return that hints at even darker twists to come.
