R. Kelly Hospitalized After Prison Collapse — Lawyer Alleges Intentional Overdose

Singer R. Kelly was urgently taken to Duke University Hospital after reportedly collapsing in his prison cell, a medical crisis that his attorney claims was caused by a potentially fatal overdose of medication given by prison staff.

 Alarming Medical Emergency in Prison

The 58-year-old artist, whose real name is Robert Sylvester Kelly, had been placed in solitary confinement on June 10. Just two days later, he allegedly received an additional dose of prescribed medication that resulted in severe side effects. His lawyer, Beau Brindley, stated that Kelly suffered fainting, dizziness, and loss of vision before being rushed for emergency treatment on June 13.

Doctors at the hospital reportedly confirmed that Kelly had received an unusually high dose of medication, which they described as life-threatening, prompting them to keep him under observation for 48 hours.

Lawyer Points to Foul Play

Brindley suggested the overdose was not accidental, referencing earlier claims made by Kelly’s legal team that prison staff may be involved in a deliberate plan to harm him. “They gave him an amount of medicine that could have killed him,” Brindley said.

In previous court filings, Kelly’s lawyers alleged that both correctional officers and white supremacist groups were involved in a conspiracy to endanger the singer’s life. A fellow inmate, Mikeal Glenn Stine, reportedly supported those allegations, which led to Kelly being isolated in solitary confinement for his safety.

Blood Clots Discovered During Hospital Stay

While under medical supervision, doctors reportedly discovered blood clots in both legs and lungs, conditions that required urgent surgical intervention. However, according to Brindley, prison authorities forcibly discharged Kelly from the hospital against medical advice and returned him to solitary confinement.

Emergency Plea for Home Confinement

Kelly, who is currently serving a 30-year federal sentence for racketeering and sex trafficking, is now petitioning for emergency release to home confinement. His defense team argues that ongoing medical neglect and the threats to his life in custody are putting his health in critical danger.
