Wednesday Season 1 Episode 8 A Murder of Woes.
Opening: Everything Falls Apart
Episode 8 picks up right where Episode 7 left off Wednesday Addams is devastated after Tyler’s confession that he is the Hyde. Her worst fears have come true, but she has no proof to expose him. What’s worse, she’s now seen as unstable by the authorities and the school, and her extreme tactics have pushed everyone away.
Despite being emotionally shaken, Wednesday is more determined than ever to uncover the identity of the Hyde’s master — the person controlling Tyler and orchestrating the murders. She’s convinced that the mysterious figure is Laurel Gates , the long-thought-dead descendant of the Gates family who seeks revenge against Nevermore for the death of her brother, Garrett Gates.
But who is Laurel Gates now?
Unmasking Laurel Gates
With help from her supernatural visions and clues collected throughout the season, Wednesday narrows her suspicion to Ms. Marilyn Thornhill , the sweet and quirky botany teacher. Her suspicions are confirmed in a tense confrontation where Thornhill reveals her true identity — she is indeed Laurel Gates
Laurel had been hiding in plain sight, posing as a supportive normie while manipulating events behind the scenes. She had revived the Hyde gene in Tyler through hypnosis and trauma therapy, training him to kill for her. Her goal? To resurrect Joseph Crackstone , the colonial-era founder of Jericho, who vowed to eradicate all outcasts. With Crackstone reborn, she hopes to destroy Nevermore Academy once and for all.
Laurel captures Wednesday, injects her with a paralytic, and prepares to sacrifice her in a dark ritual to awaken Crackstone.
The Resurrection of Evil
In a chilling scene, Laurel completes the resurrection ritual , using Wednesday’s blood (as a descendant of Goody Addams) to bring Joseph Crackstone back from the dead. Crackstone emerges, alive and filled with rage, determined to carry out his centuries-old mission to purge the world of outcasts.
He sees Laurel as a loyal servant and sets off with Tyler (the Hyde) to destroy Nevermore.
Meanwhile, Wednesday is on the brink of death when she has one final vision of Goody Addams who offers to save her by transferring the rest of her spiritual energy into her descendant. Goody warns that this will be their last connection. Wednesday survives — but now she’s completely on her own.

A School in Peril
At Nevermore, chaos breaks out. Students and faculty scramble as Crackstone and Tyler begin their assault. Crackstone uses his supernatural powers to blast through doors, injure students, and head toward the library, which holds secrets and artifacts that could help him complete his genocide of outcasts.
Wednesday, now healed and more focused than ever, reunites with her loyal friend Enid , who finally wolfs out for the first time. In a highly anticipated transformation scene, Enid turns into a werewolf and battles Tyler in his monstrous Hyde form. It’s a ferocious fight filled with emotion, as Enid defends her friends and fully embraces her identity.
Elsewhere, Bianca joins Wednesday in confronting Crackstone. The students rally together in a final stand, showing the strength of unity between the outcasts despite their differences.
The Final Showdown
In the climactic battle, Wednesday faces Crackstone head-on. He is powerful and nearly unstoppable, but her courage, cleverness, and the support of her allies make a difference. With Bianca stabbing Crackstone and weakening him, Wednesday is able to land the final blow — stabbing him in the heart with a special sword tied to the Addams bloodline.
Crackstone disintegrates in a dramatic burst of supernatural energy. Laurel Gates attempts to flee, but is swiftly captured by Eugene and his swarm of bees — a satisfying payback after she nearly killed him earlier in the season.
The threat is over, and Nevermore is saved.
Closure and Goodbyes
In the aftermath, Nevermore Academy is temporarily closed for the remainder of the semester due to the danger. Students prepare to return home, and some wounds begin to heal. Wednesday and Enid reconcile, and in a touching moment, Enid gives Wednesday a long-overdue hug — and this time, Wednesday lets it happen.
Xavier, who had been wrongly accused, gives Wednesday a new phone as a parting gift and tells her to stay in touch. There’s a hint of forgiveness between them, and the door is left open for future connection.
Tyler, having reverted to his human form, is taken into custody. But in the final moments, we see him stir inside a police van suggesting the Hyde may not be gone for good.
A New Mystery Begins
Just as Wednesday thinks the danger is over, she receives an anonymous text message with photos of her and a threat: “I’m watching you.” Someone knows what she’s been up to — and is still out there.
This haunting final note hints that a new mystery awaits her in Season 2.
Conclusion: A Fitting Finale
Episode 8 delivers everything a finale should: revelations, action, emotional payoffs, and a clear conclusion while leaving the door open for more. Wednesday, once emotionally guarded and isolated, grows into someone capable of friendship, trust, and even vulnerability — all while staying true to her dark and determined self.
The battle may be over, but the shadows of Nevermore are far from gone.
